Social media threat compromises fire drill

At roughly 9 a.m. Thursday, September 19, DGN Principal Dr. Courtney Dement sent out a message to all DGN students, faculty and staff to cancel today’s pre-planned fire drill. The fire drill was originally set to take place during today’s Access class period, but was canceled less than an hour beforehand.

According to DeMent’s message, a social media post was noticed in which there was a threat to harm students and staff during a fire drill. As of now, the post is not deemed as credible nor has it been found to be associated with a DGN student. Out of precaution, the drill was postponed purely because the post was seen the same day as DGN’s fire drill.

While the post is believed to have come from someone outside of the District 99 community and was simply reposted multiple times, the Downers Grove Police Department are continuing to investigate the post to ensure DGN can practice a fire drill without the worry of any outside threats.
